Psoriasis is a skin disease which causes rapid production of the skin cells which results in formation of dry and red patches and thick skin. Elbows, knees, scalp trunk are the areas where the skin changes its color.

The main reason causing nail psoriasis is still unknown, but it is predicted that both environmental as well as genetic factors play an important role in giving rise to this disease. If one of the members of family gets nail psoriasis, then the other members are also prone to this disease. Immune system is predicted to play major role in this.

Discoloration of nail, development of pits on the nail, lines on the nails going in slanting way, appearance of white area on the nail, The skin under the nail becoming thick, nail becoming loose, crumbling of nails are some of the common signs that the nail psoriasis affected person will feel. If the person is suffering from nail psoriasis the he will also show the symptoms of skin psoriasis and only 5% of the nail psoriasis patients will not develop skin psoriasis. Male and female are equally prone to nail psoriasis and it can occur in people of any races.
