What Type of Creams is used to Treat Psoriasis?

Psoriasis is said to be cured by both oral medication, as well as application of creams. While oral medication helps to ensure that the disease does not worsen, doctors usually recommend creams to the patients. Regular application of such creams and gels helps to cure the disease.

There are mainly three kinds of creams that the doctors prescribe to their patients. The most common of these is the Topical Corticosteroids. While these are quite powerful and help to reduce the inflammation and irritation in psoriasis, they have side-effects too. Excessive use of such creams can cause a lot of problems like thinning of skin, affecting blood vessels etc.

Another common type of cream is that of Topical Retinoids. These are more of creams and gels that are derived mainly from Vitamin A, and help to treat sun damaged skin very well. However, its use needs to be monitored very carefully among pregnant women as it can cause birth defects to the child.

The third type of cream is that of Anthralin, which is usually derived from araroba trees. It is quite effective in the treatment of psoriasis, though it may cause minor skin irritation, and causes stains on everything around the patients, such as clothes, bed sheets etc.
