Can Psoriasis Come and Go in Cycles?

Psoriasis is a non-contagious disease which has nearly affected around 2-3 percent of people around the globe. This condition is characterized by appearance of red colored patches, in various sizes, all over the body. These patches are covered with dry and silvery scales. This disease is known for distorting the life circle of the skin. In the normal conditions, the formation of the new skin takes after a period of one month. In this one month, the cells of the new skin move up from the deepest layers to the uppermost layer. However, this disease causes the completion of the life cycle of the skin within a few days. This results into accelerated build-up of new cells which leads to the formation of red patches.

It is commonly observed that the bouts of Psoriasis come and go in form of cycles at various intervals of one’s life span. The majority of people suffering from Psoriasis feel that this plaque is persistent as it affects the person for years before disappearing for a short time.  This disease mostly affects areas like elbows, knees, lower backs. Once the symptoms start alleviating naturally, they get stimulated again after a span of few months to years at the trigger of minor changes. These changes include the attack of a viral infection, environmental changes, too much consumption of alcohol, abrupt weight gains etc.
