Can Psoriasis be Hereditary?

Psoriasis can be hereditary. According to researchers in 1 out of 4 patients one can notice a connection between heredity and psoriasis. A number of doctors feel that although the exact causes of psoriasis remains largely elusive, genetic and hereditary factors cannot be ignored. Often it is seen that the traits of this disease runs in families. However very rarely, it is seen that every child whose parent may be affected with psoriasis can actually end up having infected by this skin disease. But down the line, there might be someone who may be affected by psoriasis.

There are doctors who have noticed that if one of the parents is detected with psoriasis, there is almost 25% chance that the child will be infected with the same skin disorder. If both the parents are infected by the same skin disorder, the chances will increase to 50%. Even though this connection cannot be denied, there are many people who do not have any family history of psoriasis, but are still infected with the disorder. There may be genetic factors involved, but the doctors cannot undermine the non-genetic factors which include skin injury, stress or the effects of different medicines which can be fatal for psoriasis.
