Is Psoriasis Contagious?

Patients with Psoriasis especially in the early days were feared and shun away by the society because of their appearance. Psoriasis can be so severe that the red, flaky and usually scaly patches affect the entire body.  People fear of going near a person with the disease for fear of having Psoriasis too.

Psoriasis is more than the skin condition medically speaking. The skin condition is actually just an effect of the root cause of Psoriasis which is an attack by unknown triggers in the immune system. This triggers cause abnormalities in how regeneration and replacement of skin cells occur. Replacement and regeneration in a Psoriasis inflicted person takes place way faster than the usual rate. As such, the accumulation results to those dry, red and scaly patches of skin.

Because of this truth, Psoriasis is not contagious by mere physical contact. It is not contagious because the dry patches in the skin are not caused by any bacteria or infection. Psoriasis on the surface level is just an effect of the root cause. However, in case of break- outs in the skin which is unavoidable, the dry patches may get infected; this is where the infection- not the Psoriasis can be transferred.
