Is Psoriasis Hereditary?

Psoriasis is a chronic skin condition which is actually an effect of an imbalance and a trigger in the immune system. The imbalance and the trigger are actually vague even to medical practitioners. The specific cause of the disease is actually not yet fully determined by doctors.

However, this one thing is sure about Psoriasis; it is hereditary. Medical experts say that one out of four patients with Psoriasis has contracted the disease through genes. This means that when one’s parent or grandparent’s had Psoriasis, there is greater chance and probability for one to contract the disease too. However, this is not absolute. Others have family members with Psoriasis but have not contracted the disease. Most doctors say that people who contract the disease early on in life can blame hereditary reasons but is not so especially when Psoriasis is contracted later in life. Levels of genetic contribution in Psoriasis go down as one age in life.

In addition, the way one contracts the disease through heredity reason is not yet fully understood nor specified. There are complexities included in the hereditary passing of Psoriasis among family members.       Psoriasis can be detected among infants by way of the newborn screening.
